As you will have been briefed by the various emails, the TCCPA has decided to hold a croquet competition in honour of the late Jean Nowell, founder of the Big Apple and latterly the TCCPA.
The day will take the format of an informal knockout competition, with the heats taking place so that the final game can be played between the two finalists between 6pm and 8pm. No previous experience of croquet is required, with training and equipment provided. Dependent on numbers, the games will be longer or shorter – we will have to have a maximum cap on entrants of 32 but we can adapt to fewer, of course.
For those of you from further afield, or those who may want to indulge in a drop or two of the golden fire, there is basic camping available less than 1/4 mile away courtesy of Steve Layton at Orgasmic Cider. Just bring a tent and you can stay the night at the northern end of his orchards, all within easy walking distance from the club. Many thanks to Steve for making this available to us.
The Croquet Club will provide a barbeque in the late afternoon, so please bring something to add to that, if you wish. You will also need to bring your own lunch. Tea and coffee and water will be available all day from the Croquet Club. Dave Sanders who ran the Cider competition at the Three Counties Show has also kindly agreed to donate the winning ciders and perries from the Competition to the event, so there will be chance to taste the winning entries to the recent competition – a rare treat!
Finally, the TCCPA has agreed to subsidise the event to keep the tickets reasonable so the entry fee to include all the play and barbeque is only £10, with accompanying adults (barbeque only) £5 and children under 13 free.
Venue: Eardisley Croquet and Tennis Club, The Wharf, Eardisley, HR3 6NS
When: July 21st 2018, starting at 11am.
What to bring: please bring yourselves, and flat-soled shoes. Bring a picnic blanket and some deck chairs if you wish. Bring some cider or perry as well if you’d like to share it with fellow cider makers. Camping equipment if you wish to camp.
In order to enter, please return this form by post or email, with a cheque made payable to The Three Counties Cider and Perry Association, to:
Secretary TCCPA, Waterloo, Letton, HR3 6DN
Please have your entries to me by 7th July latest.
I look forward to playing croquet with other cidermakers, and I’m sure that Jean would have enjoyed the spectacle.
